Conversion of .SWF File

So, for the fourth day in a row I have tried to convert my .swf video file. I have contacted a friend from high school who is now a computer programer/computer specialist. He recommended the program Twain. It is the conversion program, that was free. Well, it worked or so I thought! It just recorded what I had done and then put up a screen that showed the conversion. NO VIDEO! I was so upset. I then saw that Dr. Pierce said to use ZamZar. When I tried this program it said that the site did not currently support .swf files. So what is a girl to do? For now I am clueless! :( I guess this is one of those learning experience, but for some reason...I am not liking it!

Jing Video

I had sooo much trouble with this. My response from Dr. Pierce came late. I hate that all my mail comes late to g-mail. So, I tried this video thing for jing. The only thing I see wrong is that you can never find my mouse. I decided to teach my kids about dinosaurs since our weekly story in on dinosaurs. I found a great site that has a quiz. When you answer the questions correctly it build a puzzle of the dinosaur you are answering questions about. So, here it is. I am sure it could be better, but this was stressful in itself! :(

My Video:

Dinosaur Puzzle

Although I would love to use this in my classroom, I don't see it happening. I was so frustrated with this that I can only imagine what my students would be like. It would be a wonderful opportunity to introduce ISTE NETS T Standard #2, but I do not see how they can use these tools sucessfully and have a good outcome. I couldn't even get it to upload myself. Imagine what 1st graders would do. Maybe when I started the year in 2nd grade, but now that I am in 1st no way! :(

Jing Photo Capture

This is the photo I chose to capture. This week my first graders are learning about dinosaurs in their reading series. I thought it would be good to give them some background knowledge. I chose to use United Streaming. Therefore, I captured the beginning of what the video would be, and all of the information that the video covers. This way it can be discussed before and after the video.

I have decided to use this a lot in my classroom because it gives the students a lot of opportunities to brainstorm and predict what may or may not happen. They love it. We have been doing this with all of our weekly stories, and believe it or not their scores have improved. Whether it be from this or not, I have not decided. I think that is a wonderful way to incorporate the ISTE NETS T Standard #2 in the classroom.

Intel Ranking Tool Week: 2

This is my Visual Ranking Tool Project. I chose to work with the book, Horton Hears a Who.

Here is my Project: It includes the Groups and Passwords, as well as an image of my ranking tool activity.

Ranking Activity

And just in case anyone needs the groups and passwords, here they are:

Group 1 Password: first
Group 2 Password: second
Group 3 Password: third
Group 4 Password: fourth

The Teacher ID for login is: Sailorgal329@aol.com

* This again is a great project for students to create their own. I really think upper grade levels would have a blast with this. This porject yet again goes hand in hand with the ISTE NETS T Standards #1 and #2 due to all of the evaluating and tools being put forth and used.

Intel: Week Two: Monday

I went in in Intel and compared my group (group 5) with all of the other groups. Our group had the highest correlation with group 1. We had an average correlation of .90 between the two groups. We only disagreed with having one switched. The group in which we had the lowest correlation with was group 3. We had a negative correlation of -.20. We had all of our answers in different places. As a group we averaged with the class a positive correlation of .90.

I think this would be a great assignment to incorporate Science and Math. The students would do the research and then they would collect the data and compare it amongst other classmates. I know for a fact this corresponds with many math and science content standards as well as, ISTE NETS T standards #1 and #2 for justifying their material and using technological tools.

Intel:Civil War

The following are the rankings as to the cause of the Civil War:

1. Economic Differences: The North had the factories and cotton mills, and the manufacturing distributors whereas; the South had the agricultural aspect. Because of this the North was buying the cotton for cheap and making clothing, then selling it back to the South as a manufactured product for more of an expense.

2. States Rights: This was the fact that the states had the right to make their laws and the Federal Government had no say in it. This was basically the dispute between the Federal Government and the states over the states rights. The states wanted to keep their rights as to what they wanted to do and could do.

3. Slavery: The slaves were the number one investment for the Southerners. Because of this the Southerners feared conflict with the North, and if this would come about then they wouldn’t be ensured the loyalty of non-slaveholders in to the economic and social systems.

4: The Abolition Movement: Without slavery this would have never taken place. The abolishment of slavery was proclaimed in the Emancipation Proclamation announced by President Lincoln on January 1, 1863. This proclaimed that officially all slaves would be freed from the states not in the Union hands.

5. Election of Lincoln: The southerners were outraged at the fact that Lincoln was selected president. They did not like his beliefs on state rights or his beliefs on slavery. He had no intention of ending slavery as to where it was happening at the time. This began the attacks on Fort Sumter.

I used the following links to justify my rankings:

* Not to mention that my Dad helped me. He is a huge History buff! :) Thanks dad!
