Photo Story

This is my photo story. I decided since it had to be based on the content I would teach, that I would use material I recently was able to obtain. I went to Philadelphia over Labor Day weekend. When I returned my students wanted to know all about my trip and what the meaning behind all of it was. Luckily, soon after was Constitution day and I was able to tie it all together. Every grade level builds on the background of our becoming a nation and the independence that we have received thanks to our founding fathers. Therefore, I really enjoyed making this photo story to show my students. I think the history behind it means a lot and that each and every student would be able to carry the information over to broaden their education.

I would definitely use this in my classroom because it has a different take on how the material is presented and would certainly hold a child's attention. Not to mention it would cover ISTE NETS T Standard #2 by being able to use appropriate technology tools.

The only trouble I had with this project was the fact that I could not get a mic to work with my new laptop mini. The mini does not have a disc drive, therefore I wasn't able to download the program off the CD. I am going to have to investigate and see if there is a program on the computer compatible with the mic so I can have it for the future assignments. Since there was no talking, I made sure that I had music with words. I hope you enjoy!

Power Point #1

Creating this Power Point was fun. I based it on the Solar System. Since I am currently teaching second grade, I found it fitting to make the Power Point to go along with our first Science unit. It took a few hours to create, but I enjoyed it and think the students will find very beneficial for their test. However, I found that once I uploaded it to Google Doc, that the sound was gone and that my pictures did not have the animation that they do on my computer. I am not sure how to fix that either. If anyone does please let me know. My Power Point... The Solar System I do not think that my second graders would be able to create one of these on their own, I may be surprised. I do think that this will be better than standing in front of the room lecturing and just looking at their Science books. I hope they enjoy it! This project could be implemented easily for upper grade levels if they would consider both ISTE NETS T Standards #1 and #2!

Jackson Pollock

This was a very difficult assignment. I found it hard to even use the application. I wasn't sure how to start because nothing ever loaded. Then I moved my mouse and a huge orange blob appeared. I kept moving my mouse around and made what I guess would be my master piece. This was a hard process to control. Then when I was finished, I tried scrolling up and down to find where to save and I couldn't find anywhere to do that. I then thought how in the world am I going to be able to save this and post it to my blog. Once I sat there for a while I remember that I could use the prnt scrn button and just add it to paint. So, when I finished playing around with the pollock application, I copied it and pasted the painting into paint. I then uploaded it to Google Docs and published it as a webpage. It was a hard process and I was able to over come the fact that I could not control the color or size of what I was actually doing with this application by just moving my mouse at different speeds.

This is the web page I used: Pollock

My Master Piece: My Pollock Painting

I think using this is the classroom would frustrate many of my students. If I had trouble with this, then I am sure they definitely would. Although it would cover ISTE NETS T Standards #1 and #2, I just feel that there is too much stress to actually incorporate this into a lesson that I may teach!

Self Portrait

Ok, this was a fun assignment!

I only ran into a few problems that were difficult. I thought it was hard to change the color of facial features because the whole entire part turned that color. Instead of just the eyeball the whole eye and eyelid changed to green, so I had to scratch that! I also thought it was hard to make things the right size. It took me a while to figure out all of the buttons and options that I could use. However, after playing with it for a few minutes it was easier to work. I tried my best and this is the best representation of myslef that I could make. (there were not a lot of options)

My Picasso Head

The program I used was:

Picasso Head

I think this would be a great way for students to create art in art class. After they have learned about famous artist they could create their own art. This will show how much the students actually learned about the specific artist. I also believe that this would be able to cover both ISTE NETS T Standards #1 and #2 because of the creativity, use of tools, and development of new ideas. :)

Photoshop Express

I have chosen a picture of my husband and I at out rehearsal for our wedding.

This is right after our pastor presented us as Mr. and Mrs. Tomorrow! :)

This picture came from My Wedding Album !

After finally getting into Photoshop, I was able to edit the red eyes, change the saturation and exposure, as well as adding a black and white fancy border.

Here is the final product:

Wedding Rehearsal

I think this would be a great project for students. It gives them the opportunity to be creative as well as express themselves by incorporating the ISTE NETS T Standard #1 in order to show expression in ways which the original image was not able to.

I am sure I will play around with this program more. Just as I would like for my students to do when they are introduced to something new!

Web Album

I chose to create an album containing some of my wedding photos. The photos are from the rehearsal all the way through the reception. They are candid pictures, not the real photography pictures. The wedding took place in Charleston, my hometown, and was actually at the State Capital. We had our reception at the Charleston Civic Center. I created my album in Pacassa (a program on google). I hope it is easy to view and that you enjoy it!

I really think this is a great concept to teach students. Many times in class there is the opportunity to have show and tell. This would be the perfect way for a student to share all of the pictures from a trip or a family vacation. I also think this was an easy program to use and that if given the opportunity that the students too will find it easy and a successful project for a technology aspect of ISTE NETS T Standard #2 used within the classroom.

Kids Zone

After reviewing the Assessments for 4th grade reading, I have found that West Virginia nearly makes the National level of assessment each year. It seems as if we fall below the line or right at national each year. This only makes me think that we need to improve our school reading programs in order to better the state schools each year. It would be nice to see an improvement each year rather than the decline we have seen in the past few year. For a closer look that the assessments view the chart below:

4th Grade Assessment Chart 1

I then began to view the assessments for the 8th grade students in reading. Although still right on the line as the 4th graders, the 8th graders were only a few points from making national each year. This again makes me think that maybe we should spend more time on reading during instruction time than other subjects. Reading is the core to all other subjects. I think that we should also be offered more options to help improve the reading programs to help our students. This may bring up the scores, if we are lucky. To get a better understanding, check out the chart below:

8th Grade Assessment Chart 1

All in all, I chose the Kids Zone charts because it was fun and easy. I chose the bar graph because it helped me get a step by step process, and it was easier for me to display my data as well. I feel that a bar graph is easy to read and can be easily created in a short amount of time for essential data needs. Not to mention that these are easily learned and incorporated by using the ISTE NETS Standard #2 by being able to analyze and solve problems through technology.

Both of my graphs were created using Kids Zone.
All of my data was compiled from NAEP.

Crappy Graphics

I chose to create a Venn Diagram on two planets since I am doing a unit in Science on the solar system. I chose to compare Uranus and Saturn. It was a very easy process and gives the students a good look at the differences between the two along with two similarities. I could have definitely put more information in the diagram, if I would have had more room. I really think this would be a good program if the students had the correct guidance for the site! This assignment would go hand in hand with being able to cover:

21C.S.PK-2.2 The student will demonstrate the ability to explore and develop new ideas, to intentionally apply sound reasoning processes and to frame, analyze and solve complex problems using appropriate technology tools.
